Boise Inc.     DAY SUPERVISOR-FINISHING/SHIPPING            2007 to 2009

 

  • Provide a safe work environment, conduct safety and operations meetings with crews and ensure that all safety and operational policies are followed, and coaching and development of all personnel
  • Managed a union workforce of over 40 union employees (AWPPW), 3 salaried employees, warehouse functions, three re-winders, oversight of the PMS computer system, and union grievances and issues
  • Process improvement included core inventory reduction of 50%, aligned accounts and ordering procedures that saved $250,000 annually, inventory tracking improved 35%
  • Modes of transportation: Rail, Intermodal, Stack Train, LTL, and TL
  • Co-lead the Moving Out Team that improved on time delivery from 87% to 96% and found, planned, and executed a plan that saved the mill 1.2 million annually in transportation costs

 

 

Boise Inc.    TERMINAL MANAGER                    2003 to 2007    

  • Provide a safe working environment by following DOT, OSHA, and company policies and started the VPP Star process, an OSHA sponsored program
  • Managed 55 drivers including 6 union spotters (USW), 2 office personnel, and 3 mechanics which included hiring, training/orientation in DOT, OSHA, and company policies, coaching, disciplining, union negotiations and grievances, and firing/contract termination for Boise employees and contract workers
  • Complete P&L and limited budget responsibilities which resulted in revenues that increased 455% from 2003 to 2006 and profits that increased 1361% for the same period
  • Development responsibilities in sales and customer relations for the Louisiana and Texas region and used this position to help our biggest internal customer with a process improvement that saved them $100,000 annually

 

 

Andrus Transportation Services                        1992 to 2003

 

OPERATIONS MANAGER:

  • Safety commitment included addressing issues with the organization, train and require adherence to OSHA and DOT regulations, and HazMat issues with drivers and customers
  • Managed 4-6 Transportation/Fleet Managers who supervise 200+ drivers and long haul and short haul operations, 4-6 Customer Service Reps who continued to achieve 97% retention of their customers and provided on-going training to all personnel relating to customer retention, driver retention, and improving skill level
  • Process improvements included developing routes based on pricing modules and driver home time and improving the Qual Comm and ICC software that increase our effectiveness

 

Special project – Import/Export:

  • Process improvements included: revenues grew $40,000.00 with one less driver, average miles per driver by 3000 miles per month through improved scheduling, developed, implemented, and maintained procedures to ensure containers were delivered correctly which increased accuracy by 69.2%, 30% up to 99.2%, solved weight problems with the help of my boss by changing wheels on tractors, removed unnecessary equipment and adding sliding fifth wheels
  • Increased driver moral, which decreased turnover through ongoing training, increased skill level and employee involvement in problem solving

Logistics Planning Manager:

  • Developed lanes for outbound and inbound freight that ensured correct truck utilization and
  • Developed and executed plan of action for bringing in new customers and correcting areas short of freight/equipment
  • Coordinated Dispatch and Customer Service to ensure correct truck loading

Weekend Operations Manager:

  • Dispatch responsibilities for 200 trucks and supervisor responsibilities for our weekend Customer Service Department, addressed and corrected fleet breakdowns, late deliveries and driver/customer problems

Fleet Manager:

  • Responsible for a fleet of 35 to 40 trucks, dispatched our specialized fleet that required JIT deliveries, given increased responsibilities to help and train other dispatchers because of my advanced computer skills

Night Dispatcher and Driver:

  • Increasing responsibilities since beginning as a trainee driver such as driver trainer then into night dispatch that did troubleshooting and correcting all dispatch/driver problems, truck breakdowns and finding alternatives to moving that freight, tracked trucks for on time delivery, and coordinated with the shop on repairs done on the road and/or contacting outside shops to repair the trucks

It has been a busy week.  As you can see the kids have been cute again.  Don’t understand why they continue to insist on doing that, but that’s ok, we’ll get through it somehow. 

I met with an outplacement specialist and he gave me alot of good pointers on my resume.  This is a copy of it but the formatting didn’t come across just right.  I am working on that now.  There is another portion that I will be changing too.  Always a living, breathing document.
