It has been a busy week.  As you can see the kids have been cute again.  Don’t understand why they continue to insist on doing that, but that’s ok, we’ll get through it somehow.

I met with an outplacement specialist and he gave me alot of good pointers on my resume.  This is a copy of it but the formatting didn’t come across just right.  I am working on that now.  There is another portion that I will be changing too.  Always a living, breathing document.

VOTE – Please go to my resume page and go to the bottom.  There I have a poll.  I am interested in what your opinion about it is.  A “I don’t like it” is as usefull as a “love it” so please vote your mind.

What!!! Snow Again!!! Cut that OUT!!!

This morning we woke up to snow on the ground.  Now I know this is not technically a crime but it should be.  When we moved here we were told about how mild it is and that we would hardly every see any snow.  This year we already have record amounts of snow and it just doesn’t want to give up.

The job search isn’t going all that great.  With the economy in the condition it is in, there is a lot of business that is simply not hiring right now but will be as soon as the economy turns around.

The kids were being kind of cute and we caught it on a video.

Saturdays Blast

We had a blast on Saturday.  We went down to Portland and drove around the City Center for a while.  We didn’t even scratch the surface so there will be more to look at.

Not much is happening on the job front.  I am working with an outplacement service that Boise is paying for but they just help you get ready for and do a search.  There are some issues we need to work through.

Pretty much going crazy…..and it ain’t pretty

I thought that being off work with money still coming in for a few weeks would be pretty easy.  I could relax and spend some time with the family and friends as we did a job search….WRONG!!  This has been torture.  I have to find a job and do it in soon.  We’ll get something but worry about the family, making sure they have everything they need is getting to me.

As a kinda diversion, I took a few pictures and made a few trips.  I hadn’t seen the River from Columbia City so I went down there and it is a great view.  I am goind to take a few more rides down that way.  I was able to go to the temple, which I think is going to be a weekly thing for the time being.  I also attened an orientation yesterday for a outplacement firm that Boise is paying for.  There are some issues to work through there before it becomes a good deal.

My brother Kelly only has a few more months in Iraq, along with Scott.  It will be good to know that they are back home safe.

Exciting times!!

Today I had my first kinda interview.  It was more of a presentation than an interview.  There are alot of insurance companies around that want people to go to work for them.  They are serching the resumes on line and calling people to see if they will come in for an interview.  It isn’t the worst deal in the world but it isn’t the best either.  We’ll keep looking for now.  For fun googled the place were I went so I have the street map and the route.

When I went and worked out tonight I took a picture of what you can see over the trees at Boise.  FARA (were I work out) is on Boise property.  Were there is normally steam and smoke there is nothing.  It will take some getting used to.

New Roads

The weather here has been crazy.  As you know we received some record snow.  Then right after that we received allot of rain in a short period of time to create flooding.   Now we are getting sunshine and wind.  Wind is not out of the norm, just combined with sunshine, it shouldn’t be happening.

Today we decided to try out a new area.  Holly and the kids have never been south of Wilsonville, OR.  We went down to Salem and drove around a little.  We went downtown and stopped by WinCo to take care of the kids for a few minutes.  Ava was in need of some eat’n.  Roman tried his hand at trying to drive.  Then we tried to find the Capital Building.  We did find the area but we needed to get headed home.  Holly was starting to hurt.  We did get some neat video and pictures.

First Day

New Beginnings.....

New Beginnings.....

New beginnings......

New beginnings......

I did some photo shop tonight and took the background off a picture of Ava.  She is cutie along with all of her brothers and sisters.

Today is the day that a new chapter begins in life.  There a many possibilities as to what can happen such as a new position, new home, schooling, or anything else that may come along.  Even though these situations are normally accompanied by a ton of fear and anguish I am surprisingly calm.  There is concern and sure I realize what can happen if we don’t get a new job in the short term (less than six months).  But what do we get at this point?  I get to spend time with my family, get to know them a little from the time that I neglected them while working, or thought myself too tired to do anything after work.  I get do this and get paid while doing it.  It is an absolute thrill to me that the children are reacting and acting allot better while I have been around.  Not saying they don’t with Mommy just that they don’t with me.  Today is the first day that Roman has run up to me and yelled daddy and gave me a big hug.  These new beginnings are kind of cool and I plan on enjoying it as much as possible.

This has also shown us allot of who our friends are.  Our family of course is great.  They have rallied around us and have been a great support.  Amazingly, as I typed that I thought of those who are really are not “family” but who have acted in such a way that while I was typing that I was thinking of them also.  Then there are those who I work with.  They have been great and supportive all the way.  Dan and Jeff are two of the three people who interviewed me when I hired on at Boise.  Jeff has since moved on to Gordon Trucking and Dan is the General Manager of trucking operations for Boise.  They have both been calling me with jobs they have found and even the process I needed to apply for them.  Then at the very end, this afternoon I was getting a purchase requisition together for Wallula and when I sent the information out to the group the shipping superintendent called me not realizing that today was my last day.  We talked and he was very supportive and we have had only limited contact as peers.  At this point I don’t have any worries, just allot of gratitude for the great family, friends, and associates in our lives.   Whether we want them to or not, things always work themselves out if we only work on them.

One more day to go

There is one more day to go.  This time tomorrow I will be on somewhat of a vacation and enjoying some extra time with my family.

Black and White of a lamp
Black and White of a lamp

Holly asked me how to make the camera take black and white pictures with the camera.  I didn’t know so I started to play with it and figured it out.  Well, I figured it out and took this picture.  I guess after you get used to color it doesn’t take much to peak your interest with the black and whites.

Now are you ready to discuss e=mc^2?
Now are you ready to discuss e=mc^2?

Holly took this picture earlier today.  It was so cute I could hardly resist (ok so I didn’t even try but I did have to make it sound good).  So if anybody asks, this is Holly’s and I am giveing her 100% credit.  When I am off work, I will try to get more pictures of the whole family.  I must admit though, the wife will need to be a little more cooperative.  She about whooped on me tonight when I tried to take her picture.  She keep saying something about “bed” and “going to” and “something about hurting”.  Can’t quit figure that one out.

I guess I will one day.

Kids being cute.

It is nice to start to get closer to the kids again.  Sophia and Ava were being cute in the office tonight.

Two more days are left at Boise.  It will be nice to have this finally done were we have stopped moving forward.   I would prefer being over taxed then to realize that no matter what you do, all progress has stopped.

It is scary to think though that in two days, I won’t have a way to take care of my family.  I gues if worse comes to worse, I will end up back on the road but I hope that doesn’t happen.  I do have a lead a two on other jobs so it is looking up.

Blast from the Past – Hurricane Rita

I was going through my disks and came across this one.  It was the trip that Dick Myers, the Communications Manager at the DeRidder, LA mill, and I took down to Hackberry, LA about 4 weeks after the storm.  It was the first load of privately donated items that reached this area.  It was thrilling to be able to drive the truck down there then back out.  Right after the first picture was taken, we had to stop at the bottom of the inter-coastal waterway bridge at a road block.  We had to state our business which was radioed over the staging area where we were headed.

The water from the Gulf was all the way past the bridge that we were stopped at.  That is over 15 miles inland.  One of the officers told us that two sharks had been found in the area after the water went down.  If you want to see more pictures let me know.  This is only 22.  I think there is another 10 or so pictures.

It is sad to think that my time with Boise is coming to an end.  It has been a very good experience and one that I am not ready to be finished with.

On a better note, the little Ava is doing alot better.  Mother is also feeling alot better.  We really appreciate everyones love and support.
